With the launch of cwbuecheler.com, I’ve decided to split off my writing efforts and host them on their own site. Now, that site is live and ready for people to (hopefully) enjoy. My review

rating: 4 of 5 stars
As with each issue so far, GUD issue 3 contains an eclectic combination of short fiction, poetry and artwork, most of it in the sci-fi, fantasy, and horror genres. Once again, the overall quality of work is strong. Particular standouts, to me, where the story “Soon You Will be Gone and Possibly Eaten” (sci-fi with a touch of horror) and the nifty Mezo-American sci-fi story “Night Bird Soaring”. I also enjoyed “The Train”‘s incredibly surreal setting.

I have to admit, the “flying machines” theme didn’t really stand out to me. True, every story involved them in some way, but I didn’t feel it made the issue any better or worse than the preceding ones. I might not even have noticed it, had I not been aware of it from their call for submissions last year.

Overall GUD continues to represent arguably the strongest collection of short genre stories that I’ve encountered. I strongly recommend it.

Voices – Finally Done

Sorry I couldn’t get to the computer yesterday, but no worries — I’ve made all of the rest of Voices available in the Writing section, starting at Page 83. It’s good to finally have it all up. I’m still happy with this story … it’s not going to win me any Pulitzers, but it’s fun to read and was a lot of fun to write. Maybe in 2009 I should resolve to write a sequel.

Next week I’m going to try to post a new web design tutorial. See you all soon. Happy New Year!

Voices Rolls Along

For some reason I’ve got the song “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” stuck in my head today, a fact which is making my lovely wife mildly perplexed (and will probably make her mildly annoyed after I bust out singing the chorus for like the twentieth time).

On that exciting, autobiographical note, here now are the links for the first half of Voices – Chapter 8, beginning with Page 75. It’s available in the Writing section, as always.

If you’re celebrating New Years Eve tonight, I recommend partying responsibly … by which I mean drinking like a fish, but not getting behind the wheel of a car. That’s our plan, along with consuming massive quantities of delicious, Caribbean-themed snacks. It may be cold and gross out in Brooklyn, but in our apartment, we’re all going to be Barbados Slim for the night!

Voices Week Continues – Chapter 7!

I’ve unleashed all eleven pages of Voices Chapter 7 in the Writing section, starting with Page 64. Our fearless band of adventurers have put their plan into action, but things don’t go quite the way they were expecting. Excitement, terror, and explosions await in the latest pages!

Half of Chapter 8 coming tomorrow, the other half on Thursday, and the final five pages (Chapter 9) coming on Friday. Hooray!

Week of Voices

Howdy. I hope everyone had or is having a wonderful holiday season, depending on what kind of holidays you celebrate. My family celebrates Christmas, so that’s what I was off doing for the past week (in the frozen white north of Syracuse, New York). I have now returned, and I bring forth this gift for you: I will be adding more pages to Voices every day this week, unless something keeps me from the PC, which it shouldn’t.

We start by finishing up Chapter 5, and then I’m going to try like hell to finish the entire thing this week, so that I can get on to posting new things, whether it’s fiction, non-fiction, web design tutorials, or just general musing on life in Brooklyn and my continued obsession with the real estate market here.

Voices Returns

Well, I’m done getting married, and I’m done playing Fallout 3 … so here’s some more Voices. I’ve decided to release smaller chunks, more frequently, rather than this slow-but-big schedule I’ve been doing so far. We’ll see how that goes.

The latest version of WordPress has a new admin interface, and it makes posting pages a bit easier, so that’s a good thing. Should make it easier to finish this thing up. There’s still a lot of pages to go!

Anyway, the latest pages can be found in the Writing Section, as always.

I bet you thought I was kidding when I said I would post more Voices, didn’t you. DIDN’T YOU?!

Actually you probably didn’t. I haven’t really given people any reason not to believe me when I say I’m going to post stuff. So with that in mind, it’s probably no huge surprise that I’ve compiled and posted the third installment in Voices, the super-hero novella I first wrote and posted in 2004.

Sorry for the lengthy delay between Chapters 2 and 3. Getting married really makes for some busy times!

The Final Pages of Persephone’s Fall

Well, I’ve finished posting one novella to WordPress … I can’t say it was the easiest experience in the history of man, but it wasn’t the hardest either, and Chapter 7 of Persephone’s Fall has now been posted to the Writing section. Here you’ll find nine pages. I still think Seph’s story is one of the best things I’ve ever written, and I’m still planning on redrafting it at some point. I don’t think there’s likely to ever be much of a market for modern versions of Greek myths, particularly illustrated ones, but I’m not really worried about what the market is.

The key now is to find an illustrator who I love, and who I can actually afford to pay. Who knows … maybe I’ll sell a book or two and be able to accomplish that sometime in the near future.

I hope those of you who are reading the story are enjoying it. It’s one of my favorites, for sure — less personal than Voices (which was an adaptation of one of the oldest stories I’ve written), but I came to like it a lot.

I’m working on a new tutorial – it seems like many of the visitors to this page are coming for that type of contet, so hopefully I’ll have some more for y’all soon!
